Dawid Malan of Middelsex CCC recently had sessions with Gary at the High Performance academy and this is what he had to say:
“Over this past winter I was lucky enough to do some work on my batting with Gary. As a player Gary was someone I looked up to and as a coach he has worked with some of the best players in the world, so it was a no brainer for me to tap into his vast experience and knowledge. Over the past two seasons my four day cricket has not progressed as I would have liked and i got a bit lost in my think and way of approaching it. We identified the areas of my game that needed working on and also worked on a game plan that suited my strengths and style of play. The way Gary spoke about batting and his coaching approach was different to what I have experienced before. He touched on the mental side of batting, how to construct an innings and about how to get through tough times during an innings. The sessions were very specific and always went into a net with a clear plan on what needed to be worked on. That varied between a match situation, where Gary tested my plans and tried to get me out, and grooving sessions where we would work on the areas i needed to get stronger in. I feel i have walked away with a lot clearer plan on how to approach my game but also on the mental side, the part we all neglect the most.”
