Players at the Gary Kirsten Cricket, High Performance Programme enjoyed the pleasure of interacting with one of world rugby’s most decorated former players, Jean de Villiers this week.

The ex-Springbok captain shared some of his insights and experience through a question and answer session with Kirsten himself.

The Paarl born, centre earned 109 caps for the Springboks and captained the team on 37 occasions.

“Jean gave us a fresh perspective on cricket. It was something different other than just cricket people, Ryan Cook, Director of the High Performance Programme said.

“He related stories on leadership, culture and his journey of excellence in his field. He also touched on his path moving forward,” Cook explained.

The engagement with De Villiers is part of a series of specialist interventions that will take place throughout the four-month long duration of their stay.

These exercises are exclusive to the GKC, High Performance Programme and are designed to give players a rounded experience and insight into what its like to be a professional sportsperson.
