11 weeks ago, GKC partnered with Grassroots Sports in India as we look to expand GKC operations globally. It has been an exciting journey so far in a country with so much passion for cricket as we aim to provide a platform for all players to take their games up a level through high quality coaching.

It started with team GKCI running 5 talent hunts around India in the cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Pune. Over 1500 players attended the camps in all cities with more than 5000 online registrations and it was amazing to see the talent that was on show. Each player got an opportunity to showcase their skills in all the disciplines including a variety of batting, bowling and fielding tasks. This enabled us to unearth some exciting raw talent. Six players were selected from each city who will join us for a 3 day residential camp in Pune in September.

Once the Talent hunts were completed, the GKCI team launched a 14 day PowerPlayer camp in Pune. We had 40 players sign up for the program which provided great exposure to the players in understanding exactly what the GKC brand is all about. It was a camp that encompassed why we play the sport and included batting, bowling, fielding, fitness, assessments, lectures on nutrition and biomechanics as well as life skills. The feedback was brilliant from all who attended and momentum is building nicely toward the launch of the new state of the art GKCI facility.

Over the next few months, Team GKCI will start to focus on creating further awareness across India regarding our Pune operation. This unique facility will allow our team to share every cricketing experience imaginable with players both locally and internationally.

Gary Kirsten Cricket recently launched it’s second cricket academy in Pune, India

This is such an exciting opportunity for GKC as well as aspiring and upcoming Indian cricketers.

With Gary winning the 2011 World Cup it was inevitable that India would become a base for GKC said Head coach for GKC India, Ryan van Niekerk

He commented: “GKC is an international brand, and for the last four years we’ve been traveling internationally running high performance camps where we got to know the international space really well, and feel we have significant coaching value to add. We are very excited to start running high performance camps, private coaching, international camps and touring teams.”

The CEO of Gary Kirsten Cricket India, Mr Anand Mittal stated the need to establish the philosophy of Gary Kirsten Cricket in India. “Gary is loved by millions of cricket lovers in India, his contribution to Indian cricket is irreplaceable. To treasure this respect and love for the nation, and post discussion with Gary, we are 100% committed to this venture and in taking his cricket legacy ahead. Our focus will be to develop a team of coaches of the same values and under guidance of Gary.”

Mr Krish Roy, Head of Business and International Relations of GKCI also commented: “Having worked with Gary and his team over the years, I know how much a team matters to him. ‘Nothing revolves around an individual’ is a core value and keeping this in mind, our team will drive this cricket philosophy ahead.”

GKC India Talent Hunt Roundup

“It’s been absolutely amazing to witness the passion and energy around cricket here in India. Our talent hunt was held in 6 different cities, starting in Mumbai. We saw over 1500 youngsters and each kid had an opportunity to bat, bowl, field and catch to showcase their skills. Thirty six players were chosen to join a three day camp in Pune. From the thirty six players, three will be chosen for a two month residential camp with GKCI later this year. India is an incredible place of passion for cricket and it is amazing to see young kids so willing to learn and just wanting to play the game.” – Coaching director in India, Ryan van Niekerk

Gary Kirsten Cricket talent hunt in India

We have nearly completed all of the talent hunts around India, with just 1 to go in Pune on Monday the 21st of May. It’s been incredible to witness the excitement and passion around cricket in India. We have selected 6 players in each city so far and the talent has been mind blowing.
“At times I wish I could wrap some of the players up and put them straight into teams around the world, just amazing!” said GKC coach Ryan van Niekerk
He continued “All selected players will come to a 3 day camp in Pune with us where we will take them through what it takes to get up to the next level. Of the 36 players, there will be 3 selected to continue in a 2 month residential program with us.
It’s been exciting to start the adventure in India as we continue to grow the GKC brand around the world. We will continue to provide platforms for all players to have an opportunity to explore their games and most importantly, have fun along the way. Watch this space for more exciting news!”
