Six more players have joined the Ryan Cook led programme which offers exclusive interactions with Kirsten and other top coaches as well as one-on-ones with world renowned professionals from a variety of different backgrounds.

“The players come from around the world so some opted to go home for the festive season while others decided to stay and enjoy the fruits of Cape Town,” Cook said.

The new boys in the camp have hit the ground running and will join the rest of the group as the programme now shifts towards a focus on the shorter formats of the game.

“The new players have been for their tests at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. We have also done some video analysis of their batting, bowling and fielding,” Cook explained.

In the coming weeks they will play T20 games against Stellenbosch University and a host of Premier League Clubs.

“It is a chance for them to test themselves in the middle,” Cook said.

“We spent a lot of time focusing on test cricket during the first half of the programme. Now we will prepare the guys to adjust their game and make the most of their ability,” he added.

GKC has some major plans both locally and internationally in 2017.

Most of all we are looking forward to once again mentoring and improving the skills of some of the most promising young cricketers.

“Welcome to 2017. I wish everyone a prosperous and enjoyable year,” Gary Kirsten said.

In 2016 the GKC enjoyed coaching trips to the likes of India and Mauritius.

Kirsten revealed that there will be more of the same in the coming year as well as many other exciting developments.

“It is a big year for GKC with a lot on the go globally. Hopefully quite a few camps around the world and obviously running here in South Africa itself,” Kirsten said.

2016/17 Summer Holiday Camps

The GKC continued its rich tradition of hosting camps during the school holidays to aspirant cricketers in the Western Cape.

“We had a great turnout during December and January especially with our Curro Hermanus clinic,”GKC Coach, Garreth von Hoesslin said.

“The coaches delivered quality programs for the cricketers. The feedback from the parents, boys and girls was exceptional and we had a lot of kids return to our January clinics from December. The clinics are there for players to ask questions and find out more about the game and their ability,” he explained.

The GKC will host their next open camp during the March and April Holidays.

High Performance Academy

The second leg of the GKC High Performance programme got underway this week with player’s eager to get stuck in once again.

The four-month-long programme has attracted players from around the world and is led by GKC Head Coach, Ryan Cook.

It offers exclusive interactions with Kirsten and other top coaches as well as one-on-ones with world renowned professionals from a variety of different backgrounds.

The “275” in the tour name refers to Gary Kirsten’s best ever test batting result, scored while playing against England in December 1999.
