Cook thrilled to be part of SA ‘A’ setup

Gary Kirsten Cricket Head Coach, Ryan Cook is gearing up for a role with South Africa ‘A’.

Cook has been appointed fielding coach for the ODI series against the English Lions which gets underway in the United Kingdom in June.

It will see him link up once again with SA ‘A’ mentor, Shukri Conrad after the two worked together at Cricket South Africa’s National Academy last year.

“It is an exciting opportunity,” Cook beamed.

“It is a great honour to represent South Africa at this level and a privilege which I am looking forward to grasping,” he added.

Cook has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years. He has worked as a consultant with CSA since 2010 and was part of the SA Under-19 coaching team during a series to England in 2010 and other tours.

“I am looking forward to touching base with players I have worked with before and new guys as well. The squad selected is one that has great potential.” he said.

“The objectives that I have is to try and aid the players in having increased awareness towards fielding and set a high standard of excellence,” Cook explained.

Cook and Conrad have developed a good working relationship and the 31-year-old is eager to rekindle it.

“Our work together in the past has been very successful. We both share thoughts on the game which are new and fresh and that compliments each other,” Cook said.

Cook will join the team for a 10-day training camp on 14 May before they jet off to England.

South Africa A will play two friendly games against County opposition before the three match ODI series gets going at Trent Bridge on 1 June.
