During the course of the summer in South Africa, The Gary Kirsten Academy had the opportunity to work with a number of county cricketers in Cape Town as a tune up for the season back home. The likes of Nick Compton, Chris Nash, Chris Cook, Dawid Malan, Arun Harinath, Aneesh Kapil, Tom Curren, James Burke and Greg smith all got put through their paces and made sure they left no stone unturned.
We have been following the players as the county season starts to take shape, and there have been some notable performance from some of the players. Chris Cook, Arun Harinath and Aneesh Kapil all started with hundreds as they hit their straps early on, while consistent performances from the likes of Dawid Malan and Nick Compton have been good to see. It’s been brilliant to see Tom Curran, son of the late Kevin Curran, getting a consistent run in the Surrey first side as he starts to show why he is rated so highly as an all-rounder.
As the county season starts to reach its peak, there is an ashes series just around the corner. Jonathan Trott has just retired and it would be fantastic to see the likes of Nick Compton getting another run in the English test side or the likes of Dawid Malan getting a go in the one day arena.
We will be watching with a keen eye to see the development of all the players and look forward to working with them again upon their return to South Africa.
