GKC set up base in Mauritius

Mauritius

Gary Kirsten Cricket have settled in well in Mauritius having arrived on the Island in early September for a three-month long coaching assignment.

The pair of Sivuyile Mfunelwa and Brad Moses are based at the Northfields Cricket Club and are harnessing the seeds that were sewed by a similar GKC coaching project last year.

“We are really enjoying coaching and life on the island,” Mfunelwa said.

“The first month has been great. We live in northern Mauritius in a beautiful coastal town called Grand-Baie.”

The duo are busy coaching over 50 eager youngsters in an effort to establish the sport in the region.

“We have got a lot of beginners, we are busy introducing the game to them,” Mfunelwa said.

“It is important for them to get the basics right at the moment. They are keen and willing to learn and that makes our job a pleasure,” he added.

Mfunelwa says their current focus areas include the fundamentals of batting, bowling and fielding.

“We are working with kids as young as seven so we understand that this is a process,” Mfunelwa remarked.

“At the end of the three months we want to see a difference. It is also about empowering these kids with life skills. It is a fantastic journey for us,” he concluded.
