GKCA and St Davids partnered up to run a 2 day High Performance Clinic with their elite players between the ages of 13 and 18.
There was an atmosphere of anticipation as the players arrived on the first day and they were into the action with some fielding which included movement skills as well as catching. It is always great to see enthusiasm and attitude when it comes to this part of the game as this is often the differentiator for individuals and teams. Gary then delved into the expectations of the camp as well as touching on the mental side of the game and how to make performances consistently. A net session was to follow and the boys all had one on one time with the coaches which was very beneficial for all involved. After the lunch break, the sessions continued as players mixed with one another as the batters tested their skills against both spin and pace bowlers. A treat for the boys was to come in the afternoon as Neil McKenzie arrived to share his vast experience with the players resonating the importance of preparation and game plans to his success. The first day finished with a range hitting competition which provided alot of fun for the boys as they challenged each other to a longest hitting contest.
Day two began early with the coaches getting together to discuss their challenges with Gary. These passionate coaches will no doubt taking some insight and learning into the season ahead with their players.
The players arrived with great energy and some lectures in the pavilion which included videos and debate on the fundamentals of technique for batting bowling and fielding followed. With that understanding, the players were back in the nets trying to fine tune their skills accordingly. It was fantastic to see the awareness of the players increasing exponentially throughout the day. After lunch, some game play in the middle and skill upgrade was done with the players as the connections between players and coaches became ever stronger. The clinic was finished off with a team building exercise which challenged the players to communicate and attain a common goal which was successfully achieved.
Many thanks to St Davids for their hospitality and use of their excellent facilities. We at GKCA wish all players and coaches all the very best for the season ahead and will continue to provide support to them during the months ahead.
