Gary Kirsten Cricket ran another “Powerplayers” event at SACS Junior School on Saturday 26th of November as part of their 8-a-side U12 cricket festival. The cricketers were introduced to the 3 events which were Speed Bowling, Bowling Accuracy and Throwing Matrix. The teams competed within their own team and on a grander scale with the other teams to find out who was the best at each challenge. The Speed Bowling was a great hit, not only with the competitors but amongst the keen on lookers to try their hand. Juan Jacques from Sun Valley clocked the top speed of the day with 101,62 km per hour. The bowling accuracy went down to a sudden death bowl out with SACS boy Matthew taking the prize. Mphumelo from Sporting Chance team hit all 4 targets in the Throwing Challenge. This was an unbelievable effort to be striking the stumps with such consistency.
The players then had an opportunity during the lunch break to take on Gary Kirsten at a Power Hitting competition. After setting down the marker the former Proteas opening batsman looked on and coached the players who attempted to hit their biggest six! There were some impressive strikes which went far and some wide as players swung with all their mustered strength. Juan Jacques was also the winner of this challenge with a shot which would have made any T20 domestic cricketer proud.
All considered it was a fantastic day with all in sundry enjoying the great weather and entertainment both on and off the field. The talent was on show for all to see and we look forward to doing more of these activations moving forward.
